The role of WeQuests in learning a foreign/second language?.

A WebQuest is a scaffolded learning structure that uses links to essential resources on the World Wide Web and an authentic task to motivate students’ investigation of a central, open-ended question development of individual expertise and participation in a final group process that attempts to transform newly acquired information into a more sophisticated understanding.

Web-based learning, such as WebQuests, can provide an answer to the quest for interactive “English as a Second Language” (ESL) classrooms. Contrary to the traditional ESL classrooms, with the use of WebQuests, students can actively participate in group discussion when exploring an issue. They can develop search skills and critical thinking skills when finding information from resources on the Internet. They also have a chance to actually use the target language in the form of reading web pages, writing presentations, listening to peers’ opinions, and discussing ideas on critical issues. Evidently, several learning theories and concepts are embedded in WebQuests. These concepts and ideas relate to critical thinking skills, second language acquisition, and social constructivism, to name a few. WebQuest, therefore, is an option for ESL teachers to engage students in authentic and meaningful activities while learning English language at the same time.

WebQuests allow students to complete authentic projects and use technology to find and present information and, at the same time, alleviate some of the barriers teachers may find in their attempt to work in the confines of project-based learning. Generally,WebQuests are cooperative activities where students assume different roles relative to an authentic problem. The WebQuest itself provides structure to the investigation of the authentic topic, thereby increasing the ability of students to successfully navigate a highly unstructured environment such as the Internet. Students then develop a product which then demonstrates their knowledge of the problem and its potential solutions.

Reflection on the three weeks

EDU 401 ( Educational Technology ) is one of the most interesting course I have taken in this semester . It teaches us how to apply technology in education and how to benefit from it.
During the last three weeks I have learned many things that I didn't learn It before. I have learned how to create an account in blogger, wiki and delicious. And who to use it in our learning process. In the first time, I have faced difficulty when I'm working on it. Also, I felt depression because I didn’t understand It and I didn't know what was it benefit . It was new things to me because I jest used the internet in reading , playing games and shopping. I didn't know there are useful websites that can be used in education process. But now, I have find it easy and enjoyable.
The website that I like It so much is, delicious. It is really delicious. I like it because I can save and share different links with my friends.
Finally, I hope to learn more about technology and how we can apply it in our education process.

How would I use blogs, wikis and delicious with my EFL students?

Blogs, wikis and delicious are useful websites that can be used by the teacher to develop the learning process and make it more enjoyable . He/she can use these websites with him/her EFL students in order to manipulate and improve their learning.

According to me as a teacher I will use these websites with my EFL students like this way.

The first website is , blogger. I will use it with my EFL students to improve their reading and writing skills. For example, I will ask them to create an account in blogger. Then, I will give them any topic and ask them to paraphrase it and write it in their blogs. After that , they are going to read each other reflection and add comments.

The second website is, delicious. This website is very helpful It enables the users to save and share links. So, I will use it with my EFL students. For example, I will ask them to create an account In delicious . Then, each one of them should add useful links that help them in their learning.

The last website is , wiki. It is used for a collaborative work. It allows users to collaborate with each other on-line easily. So, I will use It with my EFL students in their final project. I will divide them into groups and each group contain 3 students. Then, I will give them a topic and ask them to work on it as a group. So, they are going to add pages or documents to their wiki and edit it.

Application of Bax Normilasation in Saudi Arabia: The how!"

Stephan Bax argues that, "Our aim should be to attain a state of `normalisation' in which the technology is invisible and truly integrated"

In the article CALL-past, present and future which is written by Stephen Bax offers a critical examination and reassessment of the history of CALL, and argues for three new categories - Restricted , Open and Integrated CALL. Stephen Bax suggest changes and means proposed of achieving normalization. He require to use computer in classroom practice and in the syllabuses to facilitate and improve learning. Also , there should be training programs that can help teachers and students to use computer in a correct way . Finally, he require fuller integration into administrative procedures and syllabuses.  In order to achieve normalisation CALL should be invisible, serving the needs of learners and integrated into every teachers' everyday practice.

Saudi Arabia is a modern country that has a lot of  abilities and  achievements . Also, the education systems is  progressing  over time . So, I think It will not be difficult to  achieve normalisation.  But first we have to do many changes in the education systems.  First of all, computers should be use in classroom context as a tool to improve and facilitate learning. Second, teach students to use communication web sits as twitter and face book to communicate with the teacher.  Finally, provide schools and universities with equipments such as  projector, smart board and laptop.
